Ficus Iyrata

Commonly known as the Fiddle-leaf Fig or Banjo Fig, is a highly popular tropical evergreen tree in the mulberry family (Moraceae) prized for its large, distinctive, violin-shaped leaves that serve as a bold statement piece in interior design. It is native to the lowland rainforests of western Africa, where it can grow up to 60 feet tall, but typically reaches 2 to 10 feet as a houseplant.

Key Characteristics & Care:

Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light to partial shade. Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves. Rotating the plant every few days can help ensure even growth and prevent it from leaning towards the light source.

Watering:
Sensitive to both overwatering and drying out completely, so a balanced approach is key. Allow the top inch or two of the soil to dry out before watering thoroughly, ensuring the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot.

Humidity:
Thrives in moderate to high humidity (ideally 40-60%). Misting, using a humidifier, or placing the plant on a pebble tray with water can help, especially in dry indoor environments or during winter.

Temperature:
Keep in a warm, consistent environment, ideally between 16–24°C (60–75°F). It is important to protect the plant from cold drafts, A/C vents, or heating sources, as sudden temperature changes can cause stress and leaf drop.

Pruning:
Responds well to pruning to maintain shape, control size, and encourage bushier growth. Wear gloves when pruning, as the sap can be a skin irritant.
