Ficus Elastica Green

Ficus elastica Green, commonly known as the Green Rubber Tree, is a classic and elegant tropical houseplant, valued for its large, thick, glossy green leaves and strong upright growth. Its clean look, air-purifying qualities, and high resilience make it a popular choice for homes and offices, especially in modern and minimalist interiors.

Key Characteristics & Care

Appearance:
Features large, oval-shaped, leathery leaves with a deep, rich green color and a natural shine. The foliage grows alternately along a sturdy, woody stem, giving the plant a bold and architectural presence as it matures.

Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light for optimal growth, but can tolerate medium light conditions. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, especially midday sun, as it may scorch the leaves.

Watering:
Moderate. Allow the top 2–3 cm (1 inch) of the soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot and leaf drop, so good drainage is essential.

Humidity:
Adapts well to average indoor humidity levels. Cleaning the leaves with a damp cloth helps remove dust and supports healthy photosynthesis. Occasional misting is beneficial in very dry environments.

Temperature:
Thrives in warm, stable temperatures between 18–26°C (65–79°F). Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes, which can stress the plant.

Pruning:
Responds well to pruning to control height and encourage branching. Wear gloves when pruning, as the plant releases a milky latex sap that may irritate the skin.
