Potho Normal Totem
Pothos Normal Totem is the climbing version of the popular pothos, trained to grow vertically on a support. This form is highly valued because it allows the plant to develop significantly larger leaves and a lush, jungle-like appearance, making it ideal for corners that need height and a bold touch of natural greenery.
Key Characteristics & Care
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light; adequate light is essential for encouraging the plant to climb and maintain its yellow variegation. In low-light conditions, internodes (the space between leaves) will elongate, resulting in a less compact appearance.
Watering:
Moderate. Allow the top 2–3 cm (about 1 inch) of the soil to dry out between waterings. A key tip for totem-grown pothos is to keep the moss or coconut pole slightly moist, as this encourages aerial roots to anchor and absorb moisture from the support.
Humidity:
Tolerates average household humidity, but higher humidity significantly enhances vertical growth and leaf size. Regularly misting the totem is an excellent practice to keep the plant vigorous.
Temperature:
Maintain in a warm range between 18–26°C (65–79°F). Protect from cold drafts, which can cool the damp support and negatively affect the roots.
Pruning:
Responds very well to pruning. If the plant grows beyond the height of the totem, the tips can be cut and replanted at the base to create a fuller, more balanced column.
