Dracaena Marginata

More accurately Dracaena reflexa var. angustifolia (also known as the Fine-Leaf Dracaena or Madagascar Dragon Tree), Dracaena Marginata is an elegant and extremely popular tropical houseplant in 2025. It is valued for its sculptural silhouette of slender canes topped with tufts of narrow leaves, its powerful air-purifying abilities, and its exceptional resilience to indoor conditions.

Key Characteristics & Care

Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light for optimal growth; however, it is well known for its ability to adapt to low-light conditions. Avoid strong direct sunlight, which can cause brown spots or leaf scorch.

Watering:
Highly drought-tolerant. Allow the top half of the soil to dry out completely before watering again. It is extremely sensitive to overwatering, which can quickly lead to root and stem rot.

Humidity:
Tolerates average household humidity well, but occasional misting or the use of a humidifier in very dry environments helps prevent brown leaf tips.

Temperature:
Maintain in a warm environment, ideally between 18–24°C (65–75°F). It is essential to protect the plant from cold drafts (winter windows or direct air conditioning), as these can cause leaf drop.

Pruning:
Responds exceptionally well to pruning. If the plant becomes too tall, the top can be cut back to encourage new leaf tufts to sprout lower on the stem, maintaining a fuller appearance.
