Croton Gold Dust
Commonly known as Croton Gold Dust or Mosaic Croton, is a vibrant and popular tropical plant in 2025. It is prized for its small, oval leaves covered with countless bright yellow speckles that resemble splashes of gold, its air-purifying qualities, and its compact, shrubby growth habit—making it an excellent choice for tabletops and well-lit indoor spaces.
Key Characteristics & Care
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. High light levels are essential for maintaining the intensity of the “gold dust” pattern; in low-light conditions, the plant will lose its speckling and turn green. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can fade or scorch the foliage.
Watering:
Keep the substrate consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top 2 cm (about ¾ inch) of soil to dry between waterings. It is very sensitive to underwatering and will respond quickly with lower leaf drop if the soil dries out completely.
Humidity:
Requires high ambient humidity. In interiors with heating or air conditioning, it is essential to mist the leaves frequently, use a humidifier, or place the pot on a pebble tray with water.
Temperature:
Maintain within a warm range, ideally between 18–27°C (65–80°F). Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C (59°F), as it is prone to thermal stress.
Pruning:
Responds very well to tip pruning, which helps maintain its compact shape and encourages fuller, bushier growth.
